PRODUCT INFORMATION
Digital reproduction that is now housed at the Musee des Beaux Arts, Rouen, France. Painted by Caravaggio soon after his arrival in Naples (approx. 1607) it is also referred to as The Flagellation of Christ. A Scriptural event that had inspired many artists, Caravaggio took a new look at the scene by reducing the figures to a minimum, and using light to direct attention to the crucial parts of his composition - Christ's face and torso, the faces of the two torturers, and the hand holding the out-of-frame whip. It's a powerful depiction of this moment of Christ's Passion.
This 16 x 20 inch canvas is mounted on real wood stretchers and is framed in a rich dark frame with bronze beaded edge. (Other frame styles are available - Call us for information.) 22 x 26 inches in overall size.
