The original icon was prayed in 1878 by Fr. Alypios and depicts Virgin Mary looking down, standing on a cloud, wearing a red mantle. In her left hand she holds the Lord Jesus Christ, who blesses with His right hand and with His left hand holds an orb with a cross to show that He is the Creator of the world and Lord of all. Panagia Valaam is honored on August 7.
