Each shield depicts a picture of St. Michael the Archangel slaying the dragon, with the inscription Quis ut Deus?, - 'Who is like God?" - the battle cry of the faithful angels of Heaven.
This is the badge of the Arch Confraternity of Saint Michael, founded in 1878. Blessed Pope Pius IX gave it his blessing and it was indulgenced by Pope Leo XIII.
