Dorothy made a vow of virginity and refused to marry. She was martyred for her beliefs and mocked by Theophilus, a spectator at her execution. He told her to send him fruit from the heavenly garden where she would be going, and an angel, disguised as a child, brought him roses and fruits upon her death. Saint Dorothy, widow and hermitess, is a patron of brides and florists. Feast day October 30.
