Eremitical prophet, Saint John the Baptist is called "the man sent from God." His birth was foretold by the Archangel Gabriel. Christ was baptized by John the Baptist before going to Galilee. He was arrested and beheaded by King Herod Antipas. He is a patron of monastic life, road routes, and road workers. Feast days are June 24 and August 29 (though typically celebrated in June).
