Designed to be led by students, these short prayer services will deepen and enrich classroom prayer every day of the school year. For teachers, parents, principals, and religious educators, helpful introductions provide background on each liturgical season, along with advice on preparing the worship space and getting children involved in the service. Prayers are also provided for use at home, before meals, and at the end of the day to encourage family prayer throughout the week. With Children's Daily Prayer, you can form your students in the rich tradition of Roman Catholic prayer, guiding them as they become acquainted with the rhythms and rituals of Catholic worship.

New! Scripture readings from the evangelist for the year have been selected to help children become familiar with important Scripture stories and themes. In addition there are prayers for before meals and at the end of the day, as well as prayer services for the liturgical seasons and special feasts, and reproducible prayer services for children to take home to their families to celebrate occasions when they are not in school.

But this resource does more than provide a script. It forms everyone who uses it in the rich tradition of Roman Catholic prayer. It helps us to be who we are by inviting the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit into each school day.
Children's Daily Prayer provides good models of Catholic, prayer, rooted in scripture.
∗ It encourages children and young people to take a greater role in their own prayer life by leading prayer
∗ It gives teachers, principals, and religious educators (whether in parishes or homes) advice and support for praying with children and young people

Recent change in Children's Daily Prayer:
With the exception of Sundays, there is a difference in between the Lectionary for Mass and the readings in the book. When publisher first started Children's Daily Prayer, we selected particular Scripture stories and themes to help the children become familiar with the Bible, and have returned to that practice. The reasons are two-fold:

1. Children's Daily Prayer is a form of the Liturgy of the Hours, adapted for children. The Church's Liturgy of the Hours (Morning Prayer; Evening Prayer) uses Scripture passages that are different from what we would hear at daily Mass, which uses the readings from the Lectionary. In keeping with the spirit of the Liturgy of the Hours, the authors have adapted the same practice for Children's Daily Prayer.

2. In the past, when the Lectionary was used as a basis for the readings, it was found (1) that many of the same readings were repeated from year to year, thus limiting the range of Scripture the children had the opportunity to hear; (2) many days the Readings were difficult for children to comprehend.
