Douay-Rheims Bible

"The Holy Bible, faithfully translated into English out of the authentic Latin. Diligently conferred with the Hebrew, Greek and other Editions.” So begins the title page of the first editions of the Douay-Rheims Bible. First translated between 1582 and 1610, the Douay-Rheims Bible was the only Catholic translation of Scripture used in Catholic churches for over 200 years and is still considered the most accurate translation of the Bible. The translation occurred because the 16th century Catholic church wanted an English version of the Bible for the faithful to read at a time when translations by Protestant reformers did not support Catholic teachings. The Bible was translated with a profound respect for every word. Its beautiful style instilled a deeper understanding of the Word of God to readers in ages past and continues to do so today.
